I just had to share the magic that went down during Sage and Curtis's engagement photoshoot at the Utah State Capitol Building. Let me tell you, it was like stepping into a classic black-and-white movie, only it was happening in the heart of Salt Lake City. These two are the epitome of timeless elegance, and capturing their story was an absolute blast.
Picture this – the majestic backdrop of the Utah State Capitol Building, a chic urban setting that perfectly complemented Sage's effortless style and Curtis's classic charm. As a couples photographer, I live for these moments, and Sage and Curtis brought their A-game. We wanted this shoot to be a sneak peek into the chapters of their love story, a story that's about to take a major step up with their upcoming April wedding! I truly can’t wait to see them again this April, but for now, let’s obsess over these beautiful engagement photos together.
The key to this shoot? Storytelling. Yep, you heard me right. It's not just about posing and snapping away; it's about freezing those genuine moments that tell a tale. From the way Curtis looked at Sage, a mix of admiration and pure love, to the subtle but electric energy between them – every click was a paragraph in their love story
I love this shot and how contrasted it is! With Sage’s white dress and Curtis’s black suit, the two cut an incredibly striking image.
I played around with creative angles and light to add that extra oomph to their photos. There's just something about the play of shadows against the Capitol's pillars that screams "urban chic." Sage's dress and Curtis's suit added the perfect touch of classic elegance against the more modern backdrop, creating this beautiful visual contrast.
As we strolled through the Capitol's grounds, we chatted, laughed, and just let the magic unfold. That's the thing about storytelling in photography – it's not just about the visual, it's about capturing the essence of a moment. Sage and Curtis trusted me to freeze these memories for them, and I can't wait to see these photos become a part of their forever.
One of my favorite shots? Sage and Curtis walking together in the Capitol's staircase, holding hands as the artistic setting frames them from abovee. It's like a scene from a romantic movie, and I can't wait for them to look back at these photos and relive all the moments that were created and captured during their photoshoot.
This elevator gives me all the “Old Money” vibes and I love it so much. I like to switch between using flash photography to lean into more of a 1920’s party-era feel, or not using flash, which gives me more of a “slow moments at the end of the night” kind of feel.
Toward the end of the night, I took Sage and Curtis outside again (after an outfit change) and let them run around expressing the fun-loving side of their relationship. I wanted to make sure that while my gallery captured the beauty and elegance of the slow romantic moments in their love story, we also captured the fun that they have together.
You guys, this sunset could not have been better for us!! Look at how romantic that lighting is.
This is one of my favorite photos in the whole gallery because it’s such a real moment. I love the big smiles, the blur, the sunburst of light; all together this photo feels like a romantic film that leaves your heart full.
